Origin species: Small oft ostrisized person who looked different and often ugly to most other people.

Often seen as a person who is smart and wearing glasses. Glasses that probably was caused by the amount of reading they did.

New and improved, one of the first social groups to be accepted into mainstream society, not as a friend but as an necessity due to the increase use of the computer. It also helps that geek culture has quietly spilled into the mainstream, almost blurring the line between geek culture and others.

A derivative of geek, however has the sad nature of absolutely NO social skills. They may show attributes such as intelligence and humbleness, but still a somewhat socially un-ambitious creature.

Yes most geeks are akin to the computer and more recently the internet, however as we can see, computer geeks has been a new breed coming orginating from the increased use of computers and especially becasue of the internet and networking. Very useful.

Geeks who dedicate themselves to PC gaming. FPS's, real time strategy, and more importantly an origin of MMOPRG geeks. Could be quesitonable if solely specilized in gaming, on their pratical usefulness to society.

Careers derived from these interests are high odds and often result in few people suceeding to stardom, let alone a good well paying jobs. They also share a sense of community with other like geeks. Such species could include genus' Star Wars fans, Trekkies, DnD players (or more broadly RPG players in general) and more recently Magic: card gamers, video gamers.

Diehard fanboys also result from this area splitting them into many different factions, usually into three types. Company specific fanboys (Nintendo, SNK, Konomi), Game series specific factions (Street Fighter, KOF, Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy) and most importantly console specific ones, (Nintendo, PSX, Sega (RIP), X Box.)

Encapsulating both the entire past of geekdom, and the present of modern day arts, these geeks are the most creative in terms of non-pratical imagination. Related to the un-useful geeks genus. Often wallowing in obscurity, only to have a few suceed into fame, artists are resiliant and as with all geeks are dedicated to their interests. However this might also be the most arrogant of the group of the geek family, being the questioners of society, pointing fingers at those in power and nitpicking about social problems and aspects of life.
Artists are also the geeks that gather the most coverage of mental illness, creating the stereotype of the mad genius. These geeks are ever expanding, but mostly encapsulate: writers, painters, visual artists, sculptors, poets, movie makers, directors, screenwriters, comic book artists, actors/actresses, comedians, musucians, performance artists, singers, songwriters, dancers, etc.

More financially stable that artists in general, these are the unsung heros behind the scene of everyday society. Only popular among inner circles of their own respective markets, these artists are imaginative in a restricted way. Commercial artists can be: interior designers, achetects, furniture designers, fashion designers etc.

Derivative of the geek culture of being ostrisized, punks often seek an outlet of self destruction and anarchy as their personality. Anti establishment, and often anti everything, this is the geek nature being pushed to an aesthetic limit of being on the fringe of clothing sytles. Often a sub-culture of geek that defies being part of the mainstream.

Often a small difference, being Goth's dabble more intesnely into dark depressing matters. Seeing the dark as a way of life, they can go on from here to praticing being a vampire, praticing wicca etc. Once again going much further from ostrisized, but going beyond it to the point of leaving this world for another. Can go through the punk route, but can directly decend from "modern day geek". Black is their signature clothing style, also an often important part is adrogeny.
